At 8.42 1966 911s long, the $16-million Dynamiq 115 Hybrid is not a particularly large vessel. The largest yacht in the world, the Azzam, is just over five times Dynamiq's length. The GTT 115 Hybrid offers Porsche virtues in a luxury yacht, and packs a lot of functionality in a relatively small hull. The list of features and trims evokes Porsche models, including the use of Houndstooth upholstery, Targa-style mullions, and Mission-E inspired transom. Did we mention the optional Panamera Sport Turismo E-Hybrid? Along with more conventional yacht options, that too is on the option list.
The strikingly unconventional GT115 launched at the Monaco Yacht show, where it was first seen in motion. The video shows a very stable looking yacht, which to my eye seems much more stable than its shallow 4'9" draught would suggest. Where the vessel truly stands out is inside.
The low overall length does not appear to hinder the level of available space. The sun decks come in four sections, with more than one thousand square feet of available space. The standard layout includes four zones, including an aft sunbathing area, alfresco dining area, a bar and barbecue area, and as well as a forward sunbathing area. The sun decks are configurable, including an available sundeck pool. Exterior space can be augmented with an optional sunbathing pad on the forward area of the main deck.
The standard furniture package is from Minotti, which includes fittings and furniture for both the inside and outside areas. As an option, customers can opt to outfit the sundecks with a full array of deck furniture from Glyn Peter Machin, at a cost of some 355,000 Euro.
Several upholstery options are available, though our favorite is the Mocha leather with classic Pepita Houndstooth upholstery set against lots and lots of carbon fiber. Continuing with the Porsche theme, each door sill plate is rendered in brushed aluminum, and resembles the door sill plate from a Porsche model. A Panamera Sport Turismo E-Hybrid is available as an option, and will be trimmed to match the yacht.
The Porsche design elements are set against high-gloss Macassar ebony veneers, Persian carpets, and Sahara Noir marble. The intent was to create a modern gentleman's superyacht, and the execution appears stylish and distinctive, without being garish.
“The aim was to use sporty, masculine and elegant materials to best effect,” says Dynamic CEO, Sergei Dobroserdov. “We pride ourselves by always having function in mind, so while luxurious we also wanted to ensure that the interior was practical and user-friendly."
By all appearances, they have achieved that goal. The interior layout appears intuitive, with spacious, numbered cabins belowdecks. Dynamiq lists the crew and guest capacities at six apiece, with three cabins available to guests, and three to crew.
The Porsche themes continue in the cabin, including the continued use of Pepita Houndstooth everywhere from the carpets to the chairs in the pilothouse. The fittings and hardware throughout the ship seem virtually plucked from the Porsche accessories catalog. Like the new 911T, the GTT 115 is available with multiple options for glass thickness, depending on how quiet occupants prefer the cabin.
Cabin materials are somewhat unconventional. While the wooden elements of the floor are traditional caulked wood, the designers have opted for an alcantara "headliner" in the main dining area, which offsets the high-gloss of the Macassar ebony furnishings.
The Minotti interior package includes furnishings as well as accessories, though this can be augmented by a Bottega Veneta accessories package with blankets, throws, picture frames and desk accessories. A Monaco-inspired furnishing package by Sabrina for Dynamiq is also available.
The vessel appears uncluttered, with an absence of ships' boats and other maritime necessities on the outside. Dynamiq have opted instead to keep the 15' tender and optional Jet Ski in a forward garage. This keeps the tender and associated davits and hardware away from the aft sunbathing areas, where they would normally be stored.
The exterior color palette is unconventional as well, and includes vibrant shades from the Porsche catalog, such as Monte Carlo Blue, GTS Yellow, Graphite Blue Metallic, and more understated colors like Carrara White.
While my own taste in ships trends closer to square-riggers than mega-yachts, I still think this is a magnificent ship. Often branding exercises, even ones done with the best intent, come off hollow. As a former long-time Saab owner, I always found it was tricky to find the connection between the cars and the jets Saab was always bragging about their link to.
This yacht, in truth, seems to have more to do with Porsche's present direction. I suspect that Dynamiq will have no trouble selling all seven.
