As reported over the weekend, even Porsche isn’t immune to the impact of the current global economic crisis. As their latest sales numbers report, Porsche’s October delivery numbers in North America dropped almost 40% from the same period last year, a far cry from the record delivery numbers just recently released. While the economy is surely responsible the majority of the drop, it would be unfare to Porsche if we didn’t recognize the fact that some 911 buyer may have held off a purchase preferring instead to wait for the new 911 series (some of which only recently became available.)
Boxster and Cayman Hardest Hit
Hardest hit among the Porsche models are the lower-end Boxster and Cayman models. According to Porsche, total numbers delivered reached only 164 units representing a 78% reduction from the same period last year.
The one bright spot for Porsche was an increase in deliveries of the six cylinder Cayenne V6 up 16% from last month, but still off significantly from the corresponding period in 2007.

Stuttgart. In October, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, delivered 1,541 vehicles in North America; of these, 1,427 went to customers in the USA and 114 to Canada. This represents a decrease of 39 percent compared to October last year, and dem-onstrates that not even Porsche can escape the impacts of the economic crisis and the decline of demand in all business areas. An additional factor in this decrease is the model changeover in the 911 series. As the new all-wheel drive versions of the Carrera and the Targa have only been available on the North American market since October 25, the ‘Eleven’ series, with 611 vehicles delivered, showed a decrease of 40 percent compared to the same month in the previous year.
In North America, 766 vehicles from the Cayenne series were delivered altogether in October – 39 percent less that in the corresponding period in 2007. At least deliveries of the six-cylinder version, the Cayenne V6, were up again compared to last month, climbing by sixteen percent.
164 autbiles from the Boxster series were delivered, representing a reduction of 78 percent. Of these, a total of 78 units were accounted for by the Cayman and the Cayman
