We've talked a lot about celebrity provenance before in past posts. Does it add value to a Porsche? The answer it seems, is it depends. When Jerry Mathews (the "Beaver") sold his 911, or the 924 owned by the late Eric Carr (the "fox" drummer of KISS fame) went for sale, the celebrity connection didn't seem to matter. However, when a 993 Turbo S previously owned by Jerry Seinfeld sold, the celebrity provenance definitely brought a premium. So what will happen in this case?
The 914 in question isn't currently owned by Caitlyn Jenner, but the seller's description makes it very clear it was owned at one point by "Bruce" Jenner. Now, 914s are definitely on the rise price wise, but this example doesn't even run. In fact, its been sitting for years and while relatively rust free (there's still rust that will need to be dealt with) is in need of a complete restoration. With a starting bid of $5000 (someone's already placed it) we're wondering how high this will go. Given Caitlyn's recent publicity there's no telling how much celebrity provenance could play a part in the bidding. In my opinion, it's already reached its top bid at $5k as this isn't a 914-6 we're talking about. If you want to follow it yourself, here's the
