In the longhood 911 world, there is nobody more esoteric than the equal-parts-brilliant-and-enthusiastic Magnus Walker. The story of his 911 collection has spread around the internet over the last handful of years, with Magnus’ uniquely crafted physical appearance and social media persona leading the charge. Aside from being one of the nicest guys in the Porsche community, it doesn't hurt that the unique touches he puts on the Porsches in his collection are deserving of the attention bestowed upon them.
One piece of this vast collection has recently surfaced on eBay. While the listing doesn't come right out and say it's his, the pictures make it pretty clear. Not wanting to rely solely on those, we reached out to Magnus to confirm and he responded quickly letting us know it is indeed one of his Porsches and can actually be seen in his iconic documentary Urban Outlaw.
It isn’t often that Magnus lets loose one of his prized longhoods, but it has been known to happen from time to time. This one, an early 1965 model (one of the first 500 built), has been around Walker’s shop since 2010, and has recently undergone some repairs to get it up to par (but not his normal customizations). The fuel system has received a full working over, with the carburetors inspected and cleaned. The timing chain covers and valve covers were all removed, cleaned, and reinstalled with fresh seals following a valve adjustment procedure. Brand new spark plugs and wires complement a rejuvenated distributor. The exhaust has been replaced with known good components and new gaskets. New brake pads and rotors have been dispatched to keep the car in check. The cherry on top is a recent oil change, and a brand new battery.
Being a fair and honest guy, Magnus details the downsides of the Porsche in its current state in a way not often seen on eBay.
“The paint is an older respray from possibly 20 years back that looks okay in pictures and from 20 feet, but has many chips, scratches, and a few rust spots. The original Webasto heater is missing. Although I have driven the car a few miles, it should not be considered a road-worth daily-driver car. It is a driveable project car that is in need of restoration.”
The first 500 911 built are rare birds, and #365 is no exception. There are some pieces on this car that are specific to the first run of production, and will likely never be seen again. This is a great opportunity to own an historical piece of Porsche. Pick it up as soon as possible, and have your project complete before the car’s 50th birthday.
