Shortly after Porsche's Mission E was given the green light for production, we learned of a futuristic solar pylon under construction at the company's new Berlin office. At 25 meters high, and looking like something straight off the pages of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Porsche's photovoltaic monolith pylon conspicuously highlights Porsche's tireless progression toward the future.
Now, in conjunction with the Pylon, and well ahead of the first Mission E rolling off the production line, Porsche installed the first pair of charging stations that should help to make the Mission E a success. As one of the Mission E's biggest boasts is its ability to recharge up to 80% of its battery life in the span of just 15-minutes it needs power to do so. Serious power.
According to , Porsche's newly installed 800-volt chargers, at their hi-tech Berlin offices, can deliver that power. Up to 350 kilowatts. However, as no current electric car or hybrid can handle that kind of power, the new charging station is currently governed to just 50 - 150 kW. Never fear, Porsche was quick to emphasize the infrastructure is in-place to turn up the juice once the Mission E production comes online.
No word yet on how many charging stations Porsche will ultimately roll-out, but the article does mention another 350 kW charge is currently under construction at the company's North American headquarters in Atlanta.
